Ingredients
Scale
For the Casserole:
- 8 ounces egg noodles or macaroni
- 2 cans (6 ounces each) chunk light tuna or solid white tuna, drained
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs or crushed potato chips (for topping)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, melted for topping)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional Garnish:
- Chopped parsley or green onions
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente. Drain well.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk. Whisk until smooth. For extra flavor, add sautéed onions or garlic.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the cooked pasta, drained tuna, and peas. Pour the prepared sauce over and gently mix everything until well combined. Add salt and pepper to taste. If desired, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese for a richer flavor.
- Add the Toppings: Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle panko breadcrumbs or crushed potato chips over the top. For an even crunchier topping, mix the breadcrumbs with melted butter before sprinkling.
- Bake: Bake the casserole for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese (if used) is bubbly. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions, if desired.
